Question
A vendor received a total of $125.00 from the sale of snow-cones and ice-cream cones. The cost of a snow-cone is $5.00 and the cost of an ice-cream cone is $10.00. He sold 7 more snow-cones than ice-cream cones.
Calculate the total number of snow-cones sold.
Answer
13 Snow-cones
Explanation
Snow-cone = $5
Ice-Cream= $10
Sold 7 more snow-cones (s) than ice-cream cones (i)
Received $125
5s + 10i = 125
s = 7 + i
5(7+i) + 10i = 125
35 +5i + 10i = 125
35 + 15i = 125
15 i = 125-35
15i = 90
i = 90/15
i = 6
s = 6 + 7 = 13
OR
Remove the excess snow cones 7×5 = 35
125-35 = 90
1 snow-cone + 1 ice-cream = 10 +5 = $15
Therefore the number of groups of single ice-cream and snow-cone is 90/15 = 6 groups
6 + 7 = Number of snow-cones = 13
