WHY should my child take part in this class?

It’s FUN! Folding paper and creating items can be fulfilling. You get to transform a plain piece of paper to a three dimensional form and there are many possibilities of creations.

It’s ARTISTIC. Each origami model is a piece of art. But you do not need to be skilled in this area. Origami is all encompassing, anyone can do it!

It encourages MINDFULNESS. Origami enhances the ability to be aware of what is happening in the moment and kids can focus and feel at peace.

You can exercise your MEMORY. Creating an item has multiple steps, and kids get to use their memory to recall these various steps to get to the final design.

You get to CONNECT with others. The class will be interactive and you get to meet new people with your interests, but varying backgrounds. And even if you get an item wrong, asking for help can encourage problem solving skills through interacting with each other. There is a chance to make friends though trial and error.

It’s NON JUDGMENTAL. Beginning anything new can be intimidating, however the class will be an environment of encouragement, support, and making mistakes is acceptable learning technique.

It teaches PATIENCE. To get to the final origami model, you have to take multiple steps, and you should ensure that the previous steps are correct. It will take a lot of practice and sometime it will not be correct and you will have to start over, but it is part of the learning process.
