The floor shown below is to be carpeted.
(a) Calculate the area of the floor.
(b) If the carpet is sold at $20 per m², calculate the cost of the carpet needed too cover the floor completely.

(a) 27 m²
(b) $540
Explanation
(a) Area = Length × Width
Area = 4½m×6m
Area = 27 m²
(b) Cost of carpet = Area × Cost
Cost of carpet = 27 × 20 = $540
