CULTURE HOUSE COMMUNITY CARAVAN – Aranguez Savannah
All roads lead to the Aranguez Savannah on Sunday 27th August 2017 as the second edition of the Culture House Community Caravan rolls into the venue from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m..for a day of family entertainment and education on the environment. DescrIbed by Culture House Operatiohons Manager and creatior of the project H. Elishan Ulerie, as
“an Independeonnce gift to the nation,” the Caravan is part of Project AWARE (A Wonderful And Rare Eareth), an environmental awarenessprogramme designed to arouse national consciousness on wide ranging environmental issues. AWARE aims to heighten awareness on the role and responsibility of citizens in the preservation and conservation of our environment. The initiative is made possible through the generosity of Republic Bank Limited as part of their Power to Make a Difference Programme.
The first edition of the Caravan was held on Sunday 30th July at the Eddie Hart Grounds and patrons were well entertained with Auntie Thea;s Rise ‘Shine Storytime Workshop followed by a stilt walking workshop by the amazing Kaisokah Moko Jumbies.led by their Founder and Artistic Director, Junoir Bisnath. Children participating in this workshop qualified to be part of a Guiness Book of World Records event organized by Bisnath The day ended with a stage show entitled THE INNER SELF: Spoken Word for the Environment featuring the crème de la crème of Spoken Word. Representatives of the Environmental Management Agency were on hand to distribute literature and to educate members of the public.
Billed as a Community Empowerme, the caravan will feature booths with local craft, confectioneries and lots more on sale, including the best in local cuisine as well as a free children’s play area. Among the day’s activities will be workshops by Auntie Thea and Junoir Bisnath
On stage will be Marge Blackman – daughter of Trinbago Legend, Ras Shorty I; Music Band, ‘Fuh Real’;; Songbird, Gillian Moor; Spoken Word Poets, Bro. Ayow, PrettiPat (Patricia Niles Dalrymple) and Cheryl Griffith as well as King Kobo, John Stollmeyer and Percussionist extraordinaire. Baba Ayinde Onilu, son of Master Drummer, JaJah Oga Onilu..
Project AWARE is also supported by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts represented by Ms. Jenelle George and Ms. Kathy Letren respectively.
