Indira had 90 pens. She kept 1/3 for herself and gave 1/4 of the remainder to Keone. She shared the remaining pens between Alison and Yvette such that Alison received 9 more pens than Yvette.
How many pens did Alison receive?

Indira kept 1/3 for herself
So she kept 1/3×90 = 90/3 = 30
She gave away 90-30 = 60
Keone got 1/4 of 60 = 1/4 x 60 = 60/4 = 15
Left is 60-15 = 45
Alison received 9 more pens than Yvette therefore remove 9 from 45
45-9 = 36
Share that between both girls 36 ÷ 2 = 18
Then Allison received 9 + 18 pens = 27 pens
