CSEC Math 2019 Cheating Scandal

2.5/5 - (2 votes)

Teenagers all over the country and the Caribbean were in an uproar over the structure and questions on the CSEC Mathematics Paper 2 for 2019. Some students complained that some of the questions were really Add Math questions and were harder than what the students prepared for.

Further fire was stoked when a video began circulating of some students allegedly doing the exam and using their phones to help them as well as communicating with each other. So far two schools’ names have been called but no official word has been issued on which schools have been affected. The video of the alleged incident is shown below.

The Ministry of Education – Trinidad and Tobago did issue a statement indicating that investigations are ongoing and that invigilators at the centre in the video have been fired. The full statement is shown below.

CXC also issued a short statement on their Facebook Page indicating that they are investigating the matter.

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) has been made aware of a breach in examination security in Trinidad and Tobago. At this time we are working closely with the Trinidad Ministry of Education to conduct an investigation surrounding the report.
Appropriate corrective action will be taken quickly to reinforce existing security measures and to mitigate any potential impact.

We hope that this can be quickly resolved and the necessary processes put in place to ensure that this does not occur in the future.

As developments take place we will update this article.
