What is Mo’ Girls, Exactly?

Mo’ Girls is an empowerment through entrepreneurship programme for girls ages 8-16. Its aim is to boost girls’ self-esteem, help them cultivate an attitude of limitless possibility, creativity and innovation as well as facilitate an environment of connection, support and teamwork through principles of business and entrepreneurship. This manifests in two programmes–The Mo’ Girls Empowerment & Entrepreneurship Camps

(held during school breaks) and the Mo’ Girls Monthly Workshop Programme (held on the third Saturday of every month from March through July).

Why is it Important?
The premise of the programme is to empower and inspire girls to take calculated risks on themselves and their talent. We know this is needed b/c even though girls are outpacing and outperforming boys in the classroom globally, they are still less likely than their counterparts of the opposite sex to negotiate for the salaries they deserve, pursue entrepreneurial endeavours or ascend to the ranks of the C-suite in the corporate sector. We want to change that. Part of that change is making it okay for girls to take risks, to fail, to learn from it and try again. That is what Mo’ Girls is all about.
How Does it Work?
Each vacation  camp hosts 24 girls (just 8 girls per age group in each camp, so space is very limited); the girls will be divided by age into the following groups: Mini Moguls (8-10 years old), Midi Moguls (11-13 years old) and Major Moguls (14-16 years old). Each group is facilitated by two women camp facilitators (vetted through the programme’s Train-the-Trainer). Each camp will be one-week, everyday from 8:30a-4p (meals inclusive).
Who is/has been Running/Supporting this Programme to Date?
Mo’ Girls Global was a MAM Squared Limited (Agitate Media)-developed and powered social programme that is currently in the process of being registered as a social enterprise in its own right. This year, thus far, sponsors include Massy Foundation, KFC, St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, National Centre for Persons with Disabilities, KaSaLa Limited and Eternal Dermatology Solutions.
The first pilot camp initiative which launched during the 2017 July-August break with the support and endorsement of a cadre of partners across the public, private and NGO sectors, including Youth Business Trinidad & Tobago (YBTT); YMCA TT; US Embassy Public Affairs Office; Massy Foundation; Art on Purpose TT, V2 Marketing, Prestige Holdings (KFC and Subway), Regulated Industries Commission, Peche Patisserie, Doux Doux Darling Productions, Nestle, B-Mobile and Carib Brewery (Smalta).
