Happy World Read Aloud Day
Today, February 1st is World Read Aloud Day!!! Yes there is a World Read Aloud Day. Many parents say they actually start reading aloud while their children are still in the womb. I have teenagers and they actually read aloud to ME now!!!.
In Trinidad and Tobago Moms For Literacy are supposed to have events at the National Libraries where they will be reading aloud to children.
Just some reasons why you should read aloud to your children
- Brain Development
- Increase in Knowledge
- Language
- Literacy
- Bonding
Reading aloud to children every day puts them almost a year ahead of children who do not
receive daily read alouds regardless of parental income, education level or cultural
background. (Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research)
Make sure you read a book to your children this weekend. Have fun, do the voices and act out the story with them. Maybe My Trini Chile should host a read aloud event next year to honor the day?! What do you guys think?
