Review: Five Islands Water and Amusement Park
We finally went to the Five Islands and Amusement Park on 13 October 2017. Following is an account of our visit. We paid full price to get into the Park so this is NOT a paid review. We are also NOT affiliated with the Park in any way.
So we got to the park around 11:45 am. We wanted to get there in the morning, as I have found that parents tend to take their children to these types of places after lunch. We were hoping to get there before the crowd. That ploy worked. When we got there, it was pretty quiet. We are a family of four and we all bought the full pass for $200 dollars since we all wanted to try out the rides. Total price for everyone was $800 plus $40 for special socks to jump on the trampoline. My sister was also there, she took the spectator pass which was also $200 but $100 could be used for food in the Park. (Note the special socks could be taken home and reused another day.)
As you enter you have a room full of arcade games. Usually arcade games have to be paid for separately however they were having a special where we got ten free games once we were within the first hundred visitors that day. I believe that was a special for the Public Holiday.
So back inside to get out of the rain. We decided to go on the trampolines. That was so much fun! Jumping with your kids is a must for parents who physically can do it. It is VERY tiring but great memories. They allow ten minutes at a time. We were tired after about five minutes 🙂
Next on the agenda was the Skywalk, officially known as the Howler Trail Ropes Course. The Skywalk is actually suspended ABOVE the arcade games. They hook you up to a harness and you walk on ropes above everyone on the roof. I have a fear of heights, but I decided to still try it. The first step is the scariest but the rush when you actually do it is great! Again great memories with your kids. My younger daughter went on this twice and didn’t want to come down. Unfortunately one of the children with us had slippers, so she was not allowed on this ride. Make sure your child has sneakers or sandals so they can go on this ride.
By this time the rain had stopped and the Go Kart track had dried. As promised, we were allowed to go to the front of the line. My husband and I took one cart. The children each took a single Kart and drove themselves. We started off slow but that soon changed. We had endless fun racing each other and attempting to pass each other. We probably went around the track about 6 times. Definitely the best ride for us that day as a family!!! Great service too the attendant even let my daughter borrow his shades!
Next up the very scary ride, Dragon Fly Air Racer (ok ok only scary to me). Only the girls went on that ride. The operator was wonderful and so courteous. There was no way I was going on that one, but of course the children loved it.
The skating rink was the final outdoor ride we tried. It was the one the girls enjoyed the least. Some falls did occur but one person did manage to do something resembling a glide. Please note we found out after that there are helmets you can request. I would advise you to ask for the helmet for young children.
Down came the rain again but this time with thunder and lightning, so we did not do the one water ride that was in operation at the park. We did see some young men surfing on the ride. Maybe we will try it if we go back.
Due to the pounding rain, we found that they actually made the arcade games free while the storm was going on. We also tried the burger and fries meal which was surprisingly reasonably priced and tasted decent. We actually ate before we got there, since I was concerned about the price of food but decided to try some when we saw the prices and options. I believe the burger meal was $40 each which was not bad.
After we ate the girls did a second round of the trampoline and skywalk while we watched. Just like that 3 hours had passed. We were sweaty, had some real fun as a family and really enjoyed the experience. Below are a few tips:
Tips
- Go early so there are few lines
- Eat before you go
- Once it is sunny hit the Go Karts before the rain comes
- Wear sneakers or sandals to do the skywalk
Pros
- Had a blast as a family
- Loved the Go Karts and Trampoline
Cons
- Wish the arcade games were always free
- Didn’t really like the ice skating
Will we do it again, yes definitely! We spent about 1,000 TTD so we would not do it every weekend but we ARE looking forward to the rest of the park opening up. It is definitely something we may do on birthdays and special occasions.
Have you gone? What did you think of it?
