Partial Solar Eclipse – Trinidad and Tobago
There is going to be a partial solar eclipse tomorrow, Monday 21 August between 2:36 pm and 4:56 pm. The peak of the eclipse is supposed to be at 3:51 pm.
I am so excited because we just collected our protective wear from the Northeastern College Astronomical Society! As stressed by them and others online and in the media:
Remember to use proper eye protection when viewing the sun. SHADES will NOT WORK.
Since we are only going to experience a partial eclipse please never look at the sun without the protective eye wear on. Only look at the sun during the eclipse for two (2) minutes at a time. Do NOT look at the eclipse through your phone camera.
We have confirmed that there are five organizations doing viewings during the eclipse:
- CARINA (Caribbean Institute of Astronomy) will be hosting their viewing event at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
- The UWI StarGazer group will be hosting their viewing event at the UWI St. Augustine campus:
- NIHERST (The National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology) will be hosting their event at the National Science Centre.
- The Northeastern College Astronomical Society will be hosting their viewing event at Northeastern College, Sangre Grande.
- The Trinidad and Tobago Astro Club will be hosting their event at the San Fernando Hill
Below is the post from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service talking about the event.
