Trinidad and Tobago – National Pledge
I solemnly pledge
To dedicate my life
To the service of my God
And my country.
I will honour
My parents, my teachers,
My leaders and my elders
And those in authority.
I will be clean and honest
In all my thoughts,
My words and my deeds.
I will strive in everything I do
To work together with my fellowmen
Of every creed and race
For the greater happiness of all
And the honour and glory
Of my country.
Author Marjorie Padmore
The National Pledge is usually recited by school children before the start of school.

OUR NATIONAL SONG
GOD BLESS OUR NATION.
Author: Jill Padmore
“Pre August 31 1962 when there was a competition to create the National Anthem there were two songs that were running neck and neck as to which will be the winner. Forged From the Love of Libety and God Bless Our Nation. The former won and the latter became the National Song. The author Marjorie Padmore in the same year but later on wrote the National Pledge. In both pieces she thought long and hard as to what the words should mean. She was in love with her beloved Trinidad and Tobago a nation now about to start out and she felt pride in its future. Marjorie, my Aunt also composed many jingles and rhymes for the Ministry of Education School Broadcasting Unit. She was also its first female Director and for many years she worked long and hard to set a foundation for the Education system. Many may remember having to listen to the radio during the afternoon of the school day as she taught. Something that our children today seem to have to do once again using different technology. Marjorie was awarded the Hummingbird Medal for her contribution to the nation.
